Christiano Ronaldo – 34 goals in 34 appearances, CR7 as he is now being referred to was a midfielder at Man Utd but Mourinho found a position that brought the best in him. It remains to be seen if Ancelotti can keep his goal scoring rate going but if pre-season is anything to go by he will find that net regularly this season also. CR7 often catches defenders off guard early with his blistering pace so first goalscorer bets for me.
Big boots to fill
Diego Costa – 10 goals in 31 appearances, with Falcao now settling in at money bags Monaco Athletico will be looking to Costa and new signing David Villa to get the goals. If Costa can keep his temper under control he will bag the goals. The Brazilian has been a consistent scorer throughout his career and as long as he isn’t pushed deep or out wide to accommodate Villa the goals will come.
Carlos Arturo Bacca Ahumada – 25 Goals in 35 Appearances, the new signing for Sevilla will need to replace the consistent goals supplied by the now Man City player Alvaro Negredo. The Columbian striker was a consistent scorer for Club Bruges and if Bacca can adapt quickly to La Liga defences he will score for fun. The Belgian league is undergoing something of a renaissance; it is the in thing to sign players from Belgian thanks largely to the success of such players as Hazard, Benteke, Lukaku & co.
Jonas – 13 goals in 25 appearances, another Brazilian this time understudy to Soldado now of Spurs. Given more game time Jonas will deliver the goals and he may well need to. Valencia’s incoming strikers to replace Soldado have thus far been underwhelming so if there is no more activity in the transfer market then Jonas need to deliver.
Few surprises
Antoine Griezmann – 10 goals in 34 appearances, the Frenchman was a bit of a surprise last season for Real Sociedad. Little was expected but late in the season it seemed like he had settled and was delivering goals on a regular basis. If he can carry his end of season form into the new season then get your money on him and watch the payouts!
Carlos Vela – 14 goals in 35 Appearances, the Mexican former Arsenal player is beginning to live up to his potential and he looks at home in the Spanish league. With it being a World Cup year he will be looking to notch up the goals to seal his place in the Mexican forward line. Vela takes the penalties and is always a good shout to crack in a few first and last goals.
Rodri – With 37 goals in 100 appearances this Barca B 23 year old now needs to step up to the plate and establish himself during his loan spell at Almeria.
